I fill in the form with each criteria of the rubric as a question in Google Forms run Autocrat in Sheets and, a beautiful rubric appears in my students’ inbox. To email traditional rubrics to my students. Here’s how I’ve used Autocrat since March during eLearning (to keep you motivated to learn how to use this slightly more complex add-on) Since there’s so much info on the technical aspects of Autocrat, I’ll focus more on how I used Autocrat for my specific classes: AP English Language & Composition, AP Capstone Seminar and AP Capstone Research Welcome to Autocrat, an add-on for Google Sheets, created in 2014 by high school student Tim Cargan, who was 16 years old when he coded the add-on.Ī lot of people have seen the light before me and there are amazing tutorials online such as Noemi Gonzalez’s great post, Tziri Lamm’s video tutorial or, Rachel Medeiros’ post. With the deep, deep dive into eLearning and my AP Lang students practicing timed essays at least once a week, I knew I needed a better system to give digital feedback. Students would read (or not) my messy writing or really just look for the grade. I would give comments and suggestions in their Google Docs but I would still circle and markup paper rubrics to show students where they were at in their learning. Full disclosure: before COVID and eLearning, I, despite being an avid user of Google Classroom almost since its inception, still used paper rubrics to give students feedback.

Here’s how you can create your own Escher-like drawings. Tessellations are often called tilings, and that’s what you should think about: If I had tiles made in this shape, could I use them to tile my kitchen floor? Or would it be impossible? The first two tessellations above were made with a single geometric shape (called a tile) designed so that they can fit together without gaps or overlaps. So we’ll focus on how to make symmetric tessellations. It’s actually much harder to come up with these “aperiodic” tessellations than to come up with ones that have translational symmetry. The Penrose tiling shown below does not have any translational symmetry. Many tessellations have translational symmetry, but it’s not strictly necessary. The idea is that the design could be continued infinitely far to cover the whole plane (though of course we can only draw a small portion of it). The measurement process can be particularly difficult for many students and by allowing them to practice with the framework of the rule of thirds and tessellations, it makes the measurement process more focused and clear.\)Ī tessellation is a design using one ore more geometric shapes with no overlaps and no gaps. This process contains many steps, but the time is well worth it. Draw a new grid on a blank piece of paper and draw a work of tessellation art based on the composed digital image. Print the new images, recreate the grid using the rule of thirds and look for any new patterns.ġ0. Allow students to retake their object images using the rule of thirds as their guide to composing the image.ĩ. Discuss the rule of thirds and that master photographers use this general rule when composing an image in order to find balance within the image or to highlight particular patterns.Ĩ. Print the pictures and have students re-create their original grid on top of the picture to try and find any patterns that arise in the digital image.ħ. Using a digital camera, cell phone or tablet with a camera, ask students to take a picture of items found in nature.Ħ. Have students create their own tessellation art using the lesson linked above.ĥ. Guide students through the discovery process of finding the patterns within the grid.Ĥ. Have students observe copies of the pieces and lay out a grid on the work using a ruler and pencil.ģ. Review a variety of master artworks that use tessellations as a technique.Ģ. By combining Tessellations with Digital Photography, we have a rich and relevant technique that many students can engage with on multiple levels of understanding.ġ. In terms of digital photography, much of the focus is placed composition and using the rule of thirds. This is a wonderful way for us to connect the arts with Common Core math in a very purposeful and authentic way. For those of you who are not familiar, tessellations are mosaics using small squares to make repetitive patterns. Today’s focus technique for visual art is actually a combination of two separate strategies: Tessellations and Digital Photography. But we still have more strategies to share. Our final strategy week is all about art techniques! One of the most versatile forms for arts integration, visual art has been highlighted on this blog numerous times. But for all of you who have experienced the AirPods Max, do you agree with my assessment that the XM5s are better value than the AirPods Max, or do you disagree? Let me know in the comments. In terms of call quality, I prefer the Sony WH-1000XM5.Īnd those are all very compelling reasons to save a few extra bucks, and just go for the Sony WH-1000XM5 instead, because even if the AirPods have better performance in certain areas, noise cancelling, transparency - some people might not think it’s justifiable to pay that much more for that. I would rather wear this all day than the AirPods Max, and it helps that its battery life is better, up to 30 hours on a single charge instead of 20 on the AirPods Max, so I could use this for quite a bit longer without charging. It’s so much lighter and the clamping pressure is also more gentle. In terms of comfort, the Sonys are far more comfortable. So vocals sound fuller, bass has more thump, just a generally more exciting sound especially with faster music. What I really like about the WH-1000XM5 is that it’s got this heaviness in the lower mids and upper bass. This is true whether I’m listening on iPhone with both of them on AAC codec, or on Android with the Sony WH-1000XM5 streaming in LDAC. In terms of sound quality, they are quite comparable but with pretty big difference. In short, the AirPods Max transparency mode is awesome, but the Sony WH-1000XM5 are not that far behind. The WH-1000XM5 seem to roll off the high frequencies a bit, so it still doesn’t feel completely transparent, Also when speaking to people they sound a bit more clear on the Max. But somehow the AirPods Max feel more transparent. They both feel almost like you are not wearing headphones. In terms of transparency mode, they both are pretty close. In real world usage however, the WH-1000XM5 are still more effective, but the AirPods Max is just one step ahead. In terms of noise cancelling, the AirPods Max was way more effective, you can really hear how much more low frequency noise it’s cancelling. Furthermore, Alexey Bobrick and Gianni Martire claim that, in principle, a class of subluminal, spherically symmetric warp drive spacetimes can be constructed based on physical principles presently known to humanity, such as positive energy. The Alcubierre drive remains a hypothetical concept with seemingly difficult problems, though the amount of energy required is no longer thought to be unobtainably large. In his metric, spacetime contracts towards the prow of the ship and expands in the direction perpendicular to the motion, meaning that the bubble actually "slides" through space, roughly speaking by "pushing space aside". Īn extension of the Alcubierre metric that eliminates the expansion of the volume elements and instead relies on the change in distances along the direction of travel is that of mathematician José Natário. Because objects within the bubble are not moving (locally) more quickly than light, the mathematical formulation of the Alcubierre metric is consistent with the conventional claims of the laws of relativity (namely, that an object with mass cannot attain or exceed the speed of light) and conventional relativistic effects such as time dilation would not apply as they would with conventional motion at near-light speeds. This method of transport does not involve objects in motion at faster-than-light speeds with respect to the contents of the warp bubble that is, a light beam within the warp bubble would still always move more quickly than the ship. The interior of the bubble is an inertial reference frame and inhabitants experience no proper acceleration. It is a Lorentzian manifold that, if interpreted in the context of general relativity, allows a warp bubble to appear in previously flat spacetime and move away at effectively faster-than-light speed. The Alcubierre metric defines the warp-drive spacetime. The local velocity relative to the deformed space-time would be subluminal, but the speed at which a spacecraft could move would be superluminal, thereby rendering possible interstellar flight, such as a visit to Proxima Centauri within a few days. The ship would then ride this wave inside a region of flat space, known as a warp bubble, and would not move within this bubble but instead be carried along as the region itself moves due to the actions of the drive. In 1994, Miguel Alcubierre proposed a method for changing the geometry of space by creating a wave that would cause the fabric of space ahead of a spacecraft to contract and the space behind it to expand. Some physicists have presented arguments to suggest that a theory of quantum gravity (which would incorporate both theories) would eliminate those solutions in general relativity that allow for backward time travel (see the chronology protection conjecture) and thus make the Alcubierre drive invalid. At the close of his original article, however, Alcubierre argued (following an argument developed by physicists analyzing traversable wormholes ) that the Casimir vacuum between parallel plates could fulfill the negative-energy requirement for the Alcubierre drive.Īnother possible issue is that, although the Alcubierre metric is consistent with Einstein's equations, general relativity does not incorporate quantum mechanics. If exotic matter with the correct properties cannot exist, then the drive cannot be constructed. The proposed mechanism of the Alcubierre drive implies a negative energy density and therefore requires exotic matter or manipulation of dark energy. Īlthough the metric proposed by Alcubierre is consistent with the Einstein field equations, construction of such a drive is not necessarily possible. Objects cannot accelerate to the speed of light within normal spacetime instead, the Alcubierre drive shifts space around an object so that the object would arrive at its destination more quickly than light would in normal space without breaking any physical laws. Since those solutions are metric tensors, the Alcubierre drive is also referred to as Alcubierre metric. Proposed by theoretical physicist Miguel Alcubierre in 1994, the Alcubierre drive is based on a solution of Einstein's field equations. The Alcubierre drive ( ) is a speculative warp drive idea according to which a spacecraft could achieve apparent faster-than-light travel by contracting space in front of it and expanding space behind it, under the assumption that a configurable energy-density field lower than that of vacuum (that is, negative mass) could be created. GH Beauty Lab scientists keep current regulations at the forefront when considering sunscreens for testing and in the most recent test, started by surveying 1,139 adults on their sun protection habits. The Good Housekeeping Institute Beauty, Health & Sustainability Lab regularly tests all types of body and face sunscreens on a range of skin types, tones and ages, from sunscreens for oily skin to sunscreens for sensitive skin, sunscreens for kids and babies, and more. The term "organic" on sunscreen product packaging implies that the product contains organically-produced ingredients, though the SPF active ingredients could be mineral or chemical and cannot be organic themselves because they are not derived from living matter. Hale, M.D., a dermatologist in New York City and senior vice president of The Skin Cancer Foundation. Mineral SPF formulas are gaining popularity because they're free of controversial chemical sunscreen active ingredients like oxybenzone, and because "in general, there's been a movement toward natural and organic skincare," says Elizabeth K. "Mineral sunscreens protect the skin by reflecting and scattering UVA and UVB radiation, and visible light," says Sara Hogan, M.D., a dermatologist at the Luxe Dermatology and Aesthetic Center in McLean, Virginia. "N atural" sunscreen usually refers to mineral SPFs, which use naturally-derived minerals like zinc oxide and titanium dioxide to block UV rays, as opposed to chemical formulas that absorb UV light and convert it to heat. When it comes to sunscreens, there are two main types: chemical and mineral. I live several states away so Gaslight offered to set it up for me to have weekly FaceTime calls with my Dad. My Dad is always clean and neat and appears to be well taken care of (I understand that with memory care residents you sometimes need to choose your battles day by day). If I have any questions or concerns, they respond quickly. The employees that I have had the pleasure to interact with are kind and respectful not only to my Dad but to me as well. The outside grounds are very well taken care of as well. The inside of the facility is always clean and neat and smells fresh. She seems to be much more relaxed and happy in the assisted living unit.įood - i would rate average - based on mom's opinions - some she likes - some she doesn't. My aunt & myself were extremely pleased that gwen & sam had a solution to our problem even before we asked to have her moved. Each resident can't have thier own staff member. There was probably just not enough staff to help this situation. A particular resident would just open her door & go into her room - whether she was there or not - sometimes laying on the bed - going into the bathroom - etc. As residents changed there were more "active/rambunctious" residents in the unit and this resulted with problems for my mother. I think it depends on the needs of the residents on how well the staff is.when my mom moved in - it was a more docile/quiet bunch.i hardly heard a complaint from mom. When my mom was in the memory care unit the staff was good - especially liked Dorian who is no longer there. The most of the staff seems friendly & helpful - although it doesn't seem to be enough of them to go around. Whydoineed this The rooms are nice & roomy - closets are huge. I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident Well done! Overall, I am impressed with Gaslight Adrian and am truly thankful that my Dad is being taken care of there.
